As a financial consultant, he uses his accounting and tax background extensively to help people work toward obtaining financial security. This requires Ed to use a planning process that concentrates not only on helping people plan for wealth accumulation but wealth retention and, eventually, tax efficient asset distribution.
Ed’s background in financial services began with the degree he earned in Business Administration from Michigan State University in 1966. A firm believer in the value of ongoing, career related education, in 1989 he successfully completed the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ Professional Education Program sponsored by the College for Financial Planning. He has also successfully completed the Certified Retirement Financial Advisor (CRFA™) Course and the Chartered Federal Employee Benefits Consultant Course (ChFEBC™).
Since September 2008 he has attended a number of intensive seminars on IRA and Retirement distribution planning presented by Ed Slott, a nationally acclaimed expert, who has been seen nationwide on many Public Television networks. 1) Tax Efficient Wealth & Income Planning

Tax planning is an activity that is best pursued year-round. By working with a financial advisor who is knowledgeable about the income and capital gain tax aspects of investments, insurance, Social Security, estate taxes, probate, retirement plan taxation, etc. you can potentially structure your finances in a tax efficient manner and avoid mistakes that can be devastating to your financial well-being.
Remember, it is better to learn from other people's mistakes than it is to learn from your own mistakes.


2) Retirement Planning

Development of a realistic retirement plan that is based on your lifestyle and values as well as your net worth can be a rather daunting task. My goal is to help you understand when and how much you can spend from your retirement funds without outliving your money. Although past performance is no guarantee of future results, the UNIQUE retirement planning system that I use is based on 111 years of actual history using real data from 1900 to 2011. The system is not based on assumptions.
• The Qualified Retirement Plan world is complex and diverse. Understanding the nuances of 401(k) plans sponsored by businesses, 403(b) plans sponsored by nonprofit organizations (religious, educational, charitable, etc.), 457 plans sponsored by government agencies, SEP IRA's, Traditional IRA's, Roth IRAs, etc. is beyond the scope of most individuals and many financial advisors. As an independent specialist in this area who is not affiliated with the companies that provide the funding vehicles for employer sponsored plans, I am able to provide objective advice. I have worked with hundreds of people over the last 26 years whose goals are to maximize their retirement funds during the accumulation period and minimize the effect of taxes, inflation and market fluctuation during the years when the funds are withdrawn.
I am a member of Ed Slott’s Elite IRA Advisor Group,™ an exclusive organization of financial advisors dedicated to being leaders in the IRA industry.
• Non- Qualified Retirement Plans are not considered retirement plans under the IRS Code. They generally utilize a Life Insurance Policy referred to as Specially Designed Life Insurance (SDLI). These policies are designed to maximize the cash buildup within the contract and minimize the death benefit. If designed properly the cash buildup within a policy can be tax-sheltered and, if withdrawn appropriately, the income derived from the withdrawals can be tax-free and ultimately the death benefit can also be income tax-free.
Changes to the Mortality Tables and updated policy design have made these modern policies an attractive alternative to IRA contributions and/or a supplement to those contributions.


3) Long Term Care Planning

The cost of Long Term Care in a Nursing Home, Assisted Living Facility or through a Home Health Care Provider constitutes the single biggest financial risk that seniors face. Unfortunately, many individuals chose to ignore the problem, are not aware of many of the alternatives to self funding or just do not want to pay annual premiums for Long Term Care Insurance . As the owner of Landis Financial Services I have been able to affiliate with specialists in this area.
• I work with an organization that specializes in helping people to qualify for Medicaid and legally avoid spending down most of their assets.
• I have associated myself with several Elder Law Attorneys who will draft the appropriate Trusts, Wills, Powers of Attorney, etc. that are necessary in order to implement the asset protection plans.
• I am aware of some tax favored ways to pay for the costs of Long Term Care without paying annual Long Term Care Insurance premiums. However, most individuals are not aware of their options.


4) Money Management

By using age specific asset allocation strategies that balance your assets that are at risk and those that are not, or should not be at risk, I will help you to plan your future using the assets that you currently own.
The objective here is to assume the least amount of risk necessary to achieve your financial goals. If we cannot do that by just using current assets we will work together to look at some alternatives which might enhance your situation although asset allocation does not ensure a profit or protect against a loss.


5) Charitable Planned Giving Strategies

You don’t have to be wealthy to benefit from Charitable Planned Giving Strategies!

In fact, if you:
• feel locked into an asset because of Capital Gain Taxes or surrender charges
• are concerned about passing taxable gains on to your heirs
