Mission Statement
To provide Yorkville quality Psychotherapist assistance as a Therapist, Anxiety Therapy, Couples Therapy and Depression Therapy.
Ronald Ahlberg LCSW meeting your Psychotherapist needs since 2007.
Ron is Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Certified Alcohol and other Drug Counselor (CADC), and a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). His education includes a Master’s Degree from Aurora University George Williams School of Social Work. He has more than 15 years of experience in a variety of Mental Health settings, which has helped him gain a great deal of understanding with helping others.
Ron is a member of The National Association of Social Workers as well as The Illinois Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association, Inc. Ron holds the third out of four levels of certification in the T.E.A.M. model of therapy. He’s only one of three practitioners outside the San Francisco Bay Area to have this distinction. He frequently travels to Stanford University to continue his education.
1) Anger Treatment
One of Ron’s recent patients had been unable to control his anger on the road. Inconsiderate and unsafe drivers enraged him. Ron asked him to place a note on his dashboard which simply read, “What part of stupid driving don’t you expect?” This paradox technique shifted the client’s thinking, preparing him for situations that had previously made him angry.
Anger isn’t an event we must overcome, it’s the result of negative self-talk. It’s not people or situations that make us angry. It’s our reaction to them. Ron brings a number of techniques into play that help you shift your thinking to the other end of the spectrum.
2) Anxiety Treatment
Anxiety affects all of us in one way or another. A recent patient of Ron came to him because she had a phobia of fish. She became uncontrollably anxious when she entered the water. This anxiety was going to prevent her from taking a dream trip to Australia. But by using CBT and behavioral exposure techniques, Ron helped her identify and confront this anxiety. It wasn’t the fish that scared her, it was her thoughts about them that terrified her.
With this foundation in place, the patient overcame her anxiety within six sessions with Ron. And of course, she had a wonderful time in Australia
3) Treatment Depression
Depression is a result of distorted thoughts, unrealistic expectations, and our inability to accept our circumstances. But we often don’t see these root causes, and often fail to recognize the positive side of life.
One of Ron’s recent patients had long suffered from depression, and hadn’t had success with other counselors. But rather than taking a “cheerleader” approach, merely paying his client compliments, Ron created an effective dialogue where the client found himself arguing against those same depressive thoughts which had him down for so long. It was about navigating a paradox. It was simply about a shift in perception.
4) Treatment Addiction
Like so many deep psychological issues, addiction is the result of self-talk, the outcomes of patients’ losing arguments with themselves. Again, Ron uses the paradox technique, to play devil’s advocate. It lets patients learn to effectively talk back to that inner voice that fuels their addictions. Ron himself becomes that tempting voice, letting his patients practice their arguments.
When patients learn how to form effective arguments against their addictions, they’re prepared when temptation arrives. Ron finds this technique has proven effective in preventing relapses, letting them live happy, unencumbered lives.
5) Treatment Couples
