A partnership of compliments

Floors Etcetera was founded in 1992 by Sandra Burnett and Danny Krienke. Sandra, an interior design enthusiast and astute businesswoman, began an intensive search for a hardwood floor expert for her home in West Houston. When she discovered the talent, abilities and life-long experience of Danny, she recognized a rare opportunity—and Floors Etcetera was born to provide the greater Houston area with a company whose quality, beauty and value would have no equal.

Danny Krienke: Houston’s foremost hardwood expert

Danny Krienke didn’t choose fine hardwood flooring as a career; he was born into it. He learned everything he knows and practices today from one of Houston’s most respected, master wood craftsman he called, “Dad.” Very few people in the industry today learned their craft from passionate, old school artisans and even fewer can match Danny’s talent, knowledge and decades of experience. Danny’s Dad began taking his son to job-sites when he was only 4 years old. For the next 40 years, Danny has been honing his talents and skills to become Houston’s foremost hardwood artisan. His passion and ‘feel’ for more than 80 wood species is unmatched in Houston.

Danny believes, “Creating the perfect wood floor begins with expert preparation and prevention.” Understanding which flooring options work best in a specific environment, identifying and solving moisture problems and creating a clean, level foundation are essential. Danny and his teams work closely with designers and homeowners to achieve the distinctive look they want and the quality wood species they deserve. Whether it’s hand scrapping to achieve a distressed finish, finding reclaimed wood to match a vintage floor or installing a custom inlay border, no one knows this business better than Danny Krienke and Floors Etcetera. Today, all of the Floors Etcetera artisan craftsmen are personally trained by Danny. Which means when their work is complete, you don’t just have a beautiful floor, you have a solid investment for your home.

While classics like oak, maple and walnut remain popular standards, more exotic woods like Brazilian Cherry, Kempas and Santos Mahogany are also in high demand. 1) Custom/classic Job-finished Solid Hardwood:

Offers the widest range of choices in wood selection and the ability to have the floors re-sanded many times if desired. You choose the species and width of the wood and the direction or pattern of the installation. The finish is applied in your home, giving you unlimited custom color possibilities, as well as the ability to choose the type of shine you prefer—polyurethane satin, semi-gloss or a wax finish. A classic solid wood floor, installed by Floors Etcetera, can last up to 100 years. Custom solid hardwood is generally used in new construction.

2) Prefinsihed Flooring

Prefinished solid wood flooring eliminates the dust, noise and long timeframe necessary to craft traditional solid wood floors that are job-finished in your home. Prefinished also offers a more durable aluminum oxide factory finish—harder than any on-site finish. This product is offered in a multitude of species, styles and colors. These floors are often used in a home’s second floor or in a remodeling situation.

Laminate floors offer the look and feel of custom hardwoods at budget-friendly cost. This hardwearing flooring choice offers super durability and easy maintenance. Today’s technological imaging advances in coloring, embossing and texturing create Laminates that simulate the look of many real wood "species”. Designs are also available that recreate hand-scraped, distressed or plank wood, plus elegant natural stone. “Our laminates are the perfect solution for high traffic areas, kids, pets, allergies and our humid climate,” said Floors Etcetera’s Chief Artisan Danny Krienke. With a Laminate floor there is minimal staining, scratching, fading and wear through. And, because Laminates are made with mostly recycled materials, they are an eco-friendly option. Floors Etcetera knows how to correctly install Laminates to prevent “peaking” or buckling. Our artisans make sure the subfloor is clean and level and prepared to manufactures’ specifications; plus we always use the proper underlayment. We only choose Laminates with the proper warranty, thickness and stability required for each job-site. Even though Laminates are a man-made product, professional installation and craftsmanship is still important to insure your investment. “Floors Etcetera can also install Laminates over existing wood, tile or vinyl floors,” said President Sandra Burnett. “They can be damp mopped and vacuumed for easy maintenance. Laminates are a flexible solution to many flooring issues.”

5) Tile & Stone

Since early civilization, builders have used stone and tile for floors that are beautiful, practical and last for generations. Whether it is an old world charm you are looking for or a modern look, tile and stone floors offer endless design options. Tile and stone installation—which is labor intensive and extremely exacting—is a true art. Floors Etcetera’s reliable, seasoned, dedicated artisans can create a masterpiece floor in your home. Tile comes from a classic production method – kiln firing. We offer a myriad of colors, styles, textures, and sizes to suit any budget. Stone comes from the earth—the best manufacturer we know of. Our stone specialties are granite, marble, travertine and slate. Tile and stone are easy to clean, hardwearing, waterproof, fireproof and hypoallergenic. Fashionable home design now uses stone and tile in many rooms of the home—not just the kitchen and bathrooms anymore. Plus, with Houston’s tropical climate, tile and stone can be used in rooms where hardwood is not recommended because of temperature and humidity fluctuations.
