Business Description

We understand that looking for a healthcare provider can be difficult. Finding a chiropractor in Rahway that puts you at ease and listens to your problems is very important. At Drs Choice Care Center we want you to feel comfortable with us. This article will help to give you some background about chiropractic, and what you can expect.'You will often hear people say that chiropractors crack, pop, and snap, back pain away, but there is much more going on than most patients realize. Chiropractors spend as much time or more in the classroom as medical doctors do, and they are considered primary care physicians. 1) Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a form of care that works with the musculoskeletal and nervous system. Doctors in this line of work are skilled to treat and diagnose injuries involving the bones, muscles, and nervous system. Chiropractors help the body to heal by removing interference to the nervous system. New patients start with a consultation going over their current and past health issues. This is followed up with a physical exam. After going through these steps, the doctor will use the information to determine a diagnosis and set a treatment plan.

2) Physical Therapy

The physical therapy department at Doctor’s Choice in Rahway and Monmouth County is comprised of New Jersey licensed professionals. Their extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics allows them to provide treatment for injuries, illnesses and surgical rehabilitation. They know how to treat the pain and get you back in action.

Physical therapy is often prescribed as a follow-up treatment to chiropractic services. The gentle application of muscular massage increase range of motion through controlled exercises and other healing manipulations causing the patient to experience a feeling of well being and return to good health.

Our therapists use a hands-on approach accessing standard protocols and conjunctive modalities as needed. Treatments may consist of:

Manipulative Therapy: Consisting of release techniques which stretch the contracted areas and target strengthening of muscle groups, soft tissue circulation and joint range of motion. These myofascial release techniques enhance muscle energy and release muscle tension. Your back, neck, or other painful areas are returned to healthy and pain-free status.

Cryotherapy: The use of moist heat opens the pores of the skin, promotes expansion of underlying tissues causing increased bloodflow to the affected area.

Ultrasound: The use of sound waves to improve the release of muscle energy and tension while quieting nerves and surrounding tissues.

Phonophoresis: Is reported to enhance the delivery of certain analgesics and anti-inflammatory agents topically applied by application of ultrasound.

Ionophoresis: This non-invasive method of inducing the absorption of high concentrations of medication transdermally by applying a low electrical charge to the effected area. The positive ions created by the charge attract and repel. The effect is to increase absorption of medication.

Therapeutic Exercises: The foundation of physical therapy treatment and recovery is the customized exercise plan. In a controlled setting, range of motion is measured and increased during work sessions which incorporate applying heat and cold to the affected areas as well as other referenced techniques. The objective is to safely return you to full motion and pain free use of the damaged or affected area. Stretching of muscle tendons and expansion of joint motion are accomplished during this process.

Home Exercise Programs: Our staff will teach you how to take the gains made in physical therapy and continue them at home. A specially designed program of “do’s and don’ts” appropriate for the stage of recovery for your condition is explained and reinforced through both our detailed written material and verbal explanations.

3) Acupuncture

With all the toxins present in our various environments, it is important that our bodies are well suited to interact and deal with each challenge that we face. While traditional and western explanations of acupuncture vary, each fundamentally deals with acclimating our body to our surroundings. After thousands of years of research, various points across the body have been located that have a significant impact on our bodies overall physiology. Typically, depending on the desired end result, fine needles are meticulously positioned at these points to stimulate various aspects of our hormonal, immune, and endocrine systems. Once these systems have been stimulated, a number of neurotransmitters, natural pain killers, and hormones are released. Patients at our Dr’s Choice Care Center have described the following effects following acupuncture treatments:

-Decreases in muscles spasms and pain
-Decrease in swelling at various points across the body
-A general decrease in pain
-A decrease in illnesses due to stimulation of the immune system
-Lower levels of back and neck pain
-Fewer headaches
-Improved digestion
-Overall better sleep
-Fewer injuries during recreational sports
-Females report less gynecological issues

4) Massage Therapy

Swedish Massage

The term “Swedish Massage” refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. This form of massage was created at the turn of the century by Henry Peter Ling in Sweden. It involves the use of kneading, stroking, friction, tapping, and vibration and may provide relief from stiffness, numbness, pain, constipation, and other health problems.

The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Other possible benefits include stimulation of circulation, an increase in muscle tone, and a balance of the musculo-skeletal systems. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load.

The usual sequence in which a swedish massage strokes are conducted are Effleurage, Petrissage, Friction, Vibration, Percussion, and finally passive and active movements (bending and stretching).

Pre-Natal / Pregnancy

Pregnancy massage has been found to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints. It’s a popular complementary therapy during pregnancy for back pain, when choices for pain relief, such as medication, are often limited. Not only can massage be physically beneficial, but the human touch can be comforting and provide emotional support during pregnancy.

Trigger Point Massage

A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may trigger pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a satellite trigger point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache. Trigger points are caused by muscle overuse or injury, and because the aches are associated with moving parts, the pain is commonly mistaken for arthritis.

Trigger point work is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. In this type of massage the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort.

The result of trigger point massage is the elimination of toxins in the muscles and the release of energizing endorphins. A significant decrease in pain is often found after just one treatment.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

Sports Massage

Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons.

But you don’t have to be in the Olympics to benefit from sports massage. Sports massage is also good for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion. The massage therapist generally concentrates on a specific problem area. (Sore neck and shoulders, anyone?) This is the type of sports massage that you see in the spa.
