5 out of 5 stars posted on Google Italy repatriation - did a great job... by Mark - Jul 28, 2009 jjjjj My mother-in-law had wanted to be buried in her hometown in Italy, we worked with Josephine Dimiceli, she was wonderful. She "knows the ropes" on this process, and she knows the staff in the Italian Consulate and at Alitalia, which helped this complex process move forward very smoothly. She and her colleagues treated us with sympathy and support and in a very professional manner, all the way through the process. The final cost was almost exactly what she had estimated -- that is pretty impressive considering all of the variables. She was always available to answer our questions and deal with paperwork. And she is a nice and respectful person. We could not have been more satisfied. Summary: A+++++. PS - having gone through this process I learned some useful things re repatriation to Italy and I would be willing to talk or email with others who have to go through this. My email is mh22 @ columbia.edu 5 out of 5 stars jjjjj Posted by quantitative on 10/18/2007 I don't know what I would have done without Josephine Dimiceli, this funeral director is a consummate professional. She attended to every detail personally and assisted us greatly since we never had to go through anything like this in the past. I hope you never experience a death in your family, but if you do...contact this funeral home immediately and have Josephine take care of your family member...she becomes like part of the family. Provided by SUPERPAGES.COMFeb 25, 2009 by Guest13024 5 of 5starsjjjjj From the first phone call placed, during the arrangements, the wake and the direction of the funeral these people were the best. The graveside service was like one I had never experienced. The director, Josephine, took such pride and care in her selection of prayers and readings. We will never forget her. Their services did not end when we completed the burial. They assisted us with so many other situations that cropped up concerning the estate that her service and recommendations were phenomenal. Unfortunately, we all must experience a death in our family at some time, my suggestion is, call Dimiceli & Sons, Inc. they know what their doing. Contributor John M. February 11, 2008 The Insider Pages jjjjj The Dimiceli Family truly cares about their clients if you are a first time client or repeat you are treated like gold and understood. My family has been using the services of Dimiceli since the days of it's founder in 1929 and still continue today. Dimiceli makes a hard decision easier I would send my best friend to Dimiceli knowing they will be taken care of properly Cremation has become an increasingly common option for families. We offer an array of affordable cremation services, including visitation and services prior to cremation, cremation followed by a memorial or graveside service, or the most basic service with no other memorialization. Our staff will make all necessary arrangements with cemetery personnel, clergy, and florists on your behalf.

Frequently Asked Question's

Q. What should I do if the death occurs in the middle of the night or on the weekend? A. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please contact us immediately and we can assist you during this difficult time. (212) 683-1798.

Q. What is the purpose of embalming? A. Embalming sanitizes and preserves the body, retards the decomposition process, and enhances the appearance of a body disfigured by traumatic death or illness.

Embalming makes it possible to lengthen the time between death and the final disposition, thus allowing family members time to arrange and participate in the type of service most comforting to them.

Q. Is embalming required by law? A. In the State of New York, embalming is not required by law. However a funeral home may require that embalming be performed because of certain funeral services selected. These reasons may include a funeral with a viewing or an extended period of time between death and final disposition.

Q. What is the first step in starting the funeral process after a death has occurred? A. Call the funeral home to notify them of the death and set up a time to meet to discuss the funeral arrangements.

Q. What information or items should I bring to the initial arrangement conference? A. The funeral director will probably obtain some information from you at the time of your call. Information to bring at the time of arrangements the deceased’s home address, date and place of birth, social security number, occupation, years of education, father’s name, mother’s first and maiden name, veteran information. Other items that may be applicable: Veterans discharge papers, deed to the cemetery, full set of clothing and any photographs you wish us to display

Q: You handled my father's funeral 12 years ago, we no longer live in Manhattan, we live on Staten Island, can I contact you and can you arrange to have my mother's funeral on Staten Island?

A. Absolutely! We have the capability of providing our services in your neighborhood. You asked for Staten Island, we have been funeral director to many families using Staten Island Funeral Homes; we have used many funeral homes in different areas of the Bronx; in Flushing, College Point, Astoria, Bayside we have used many funeral homes in Brooklyn as well as Nassau County.

Q. We are coming in from out of town, can you assist us with reservations at a local hotel?

A. Absolutely! We are familiar with the hotels in the area and their pricing, we would be happy to either recommend a hotel or give you all the information for you to book directly or through your travel agent.

Q. Can you assist us in setting up the repast luncheon?

A. We can not only assist you in planning the repast luncheon, but we can also provide you with area restaurants for a bite to eat during the days/evening of the visitation. If you live locally and would like to have the luncheon in your home, we can recommend caterers that will handle everything from a brunch to a sit down lunch/dinner.

Q. Can you ship my father's remains back to Italy?

A. Yes, we can, not only Italy, but Ireland, Germany, India, Bahamas, England, Peru, and Chile (just to name a few countries). We are quite familiar with the consulates in New York and their requirements for repatriation of human remains. We can also ship human remains anywhere in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Q. We had a simple cremation for my husband, now we want to honor his wishes and scatter his ashes at sea. My husband didn't want people viewing his body he wanted them to celebrate his life, we wanted to scatter his ashes at sea and have a celebration at the same time, can you assist us with this?

A. Yes, we have worked with several yachting companies that provide everything from a simple cruise to scatter the ashes to a lavish cocktail reception which includes scattering the ashes into New York Harbor, a cruise and brunch, cocktails, lunch or dinner.
